About The Retreat

Walking distance from Oppede le Vieux, this luxury vacation rental, a beautifully renovated 17th century farmhouse with six bedrooms (4 on the ground floor) in the South of France, is spaciously laid out and ideal for groups of families and friends. With its sheltered swimming pool, private gardens filled with ancient olive trees, lavender , clambering roses , and a distinctive long wisteria arch leading from the kitchen to the private tennis court, it is the most romantic Provencal holiday villa.

Located right in the heart of The Luberon National Park, the luxury rental is nestled under the Petit Luberon hill, in a sheltered valley between the medieval hilltop villages of Oppede-Le-Vieux and Menerbes .
Walk straight from the vacation house through the property’s own vineyard and directly into the hills of The Luberon Valley.

Can be rented as a whole house including the three courtyard suites for larger parties of up to 11 guests. Or ask us about rates for smaller parties, in the low season, when guests in a smaller party can enjoy the main house only with its 3 bedrooms (sleeps up to 5 guests).

Testimonials

We don’t even know where to begin to thank you for the truly amazing time we had in Provence. It was simply magical from the second we arrived at La Ferme du Bon Dieu.

Tina Souza – Boston

If it was down to my wife, we would never ever leave.

Ray Humiston – Charleston

We absolutely loved it ! We had the best time -walking, cycling, running. It is so beautiful and private. Not a soul in sight and perfect for a bit of recuperation.

Carena Shankar – Melbourne

Very beautiful house and gardens.Stunning interior. Pool area very well done. It is a unique and beautiful house.

James Price – London

I returned from France last Tuesday night, and am so sorry to leave it, and especially, your beautiful house in Oppede. It was everything I’d hoped for — classically tasteful and immensely comfortable for me and my guests. We all hated to leave! I will remember it always as one of the best vacations I’ve ever had.

Liz Tankersley – Florida

Location

The property is in sheltered valley between Menerbes and Oppède Le Vieux -both magnificent little hill-top villages. The latter is built high on a rocky outcrop and surrounded by lush vegetation, thick forests and rocks form a striking backdrop.

You will be enchanted by this historic village which has so much to offer: a 12th century collegiate church which dominates the skyline, the ruins of an ancient château and the remains of historic workshops and homes.

It is a pleasure to wander around this village and visitors will admire the charming 15th and 16th century houses that have been skilfully restored.

You can rest awhile in the peaceful square and soak up the atmosphere with a cold glass of local wine Numerous artists, writers and movie stars have been so charmed by the style and beauty of Oppède Le Vieux that many have bought property here… you, too, will also fall in love with this beautiful place.

Getting here

The easiest way to get to The Luberon Valley , Provence is to fly to Marseilles International Airport (MRS). However , if you would like to see Paris en route , fly to Charles de Gaulle Airport, then connect directly to the TGV (high speed train) from CDG TGV2 to Avignon TGV (3 hours direct) and rent a car. The property is approx. 20 mins drive from the ancient city of Avignon.

If you are travelling from London and prefer not to fly, you can choose to travel entirely by high speed train (TGV) from central London to Avignon.

Things to do

The area is renowned for its medieval hilltop villages . Hiking or cycling between these villages , and throughout the entire Luberon Valley is a memorable experience. Bicycles can be hired locally and delivered to the property.

Time your visits with the daily fresh markets that are in a different village or town , every day of the week . The colours and heady scents of the Provencal markets are not to be missed . Enjoy purchasing the fruits and vegetables grown locally by our neighbour farmers and create the most wonderful lunches to enjoy in the many shady courtyards at the property.

If you enjoy wine , then explore the Route des Vins , with dozens of local vineyards and cellars presenting plenty of opportunity to sample and enjoy the local nectar . The world famous Chateauneuf du Pape wine growing area is only an hour away – taste the wines from the vines planted in the ancient papal vineyards.

The area is blessed with summer fields of lavender and sunflowers , there is even a lavender distillery to visit close by.

The French are serious about food , and there are several wonderful restaurants within an easy drive from the property . Or take a walk up the ancient donkey track to Le Petit Café, restaurant in Oppède le Vieux. With its fairy lights and medieval setting you’d swear you were sitting in a film set!

For your daily groceries there is a small Grocery Shop and bakery in Oppède village . There is a larger supermarket, pharmacy , greengrocer and a bank in Coustellet -a 10 minutes’ drive away
